Photographer and filmmaker based near Brussels. After achieving a master in visual communication, I started working as a photojournalist, then in film production. I worked 18 years with AJC!, Atelier jeunes cinéastes, an experimental cinema association devoted to help young directors making their first audiovisual project.
Today, I have the pleasure to teach photography, video and visual arts.
My work is now mostly focused on film making, especially documentaries and photography.
My photographs are regularly shown in exhibitions and my films in international film festivals. http://www.valerieberteau.be
I also collaborate as artistic coordinator with associations and NGO’s.
My artistic work approaches connections (territory, body, space) and environment. It relates to the broad field of visual anthropology.
In the Golden Temple in Amritsar hundreds of volunteers prepare 100 000 free meals every day. The spontaneous choreography of many philanthropists hands reveals the essence and atmosphere of this fascinating place.

In the act of going somewhere, there is the notion of leaving something ...
A place, a part of ourselves. Being on vacation from what and who we are, the rest of the year, and picturing oursleves Elsewhere. According to our fantasy, we choose the degree of references that we accept or not to lose. If leaving is to disconnect, how then connect with others there? Sometimes the gap is so deep that people are struck down by the experience ...
Is it a bigger challenge if you're a woman traveling alone ?

Musical notes have the power to affect and enhance our feelings.
From birth to death, life in northern India is punctuated by music.
The hindi/urdu word rag means colour or passion.
Therefore a raga can be defined as an accoustic method
of colouring the mind of the listener with emotion.
For centuries, its oral transmission has maintained
the essential qualities of this remarkable tradition.
